English language varieties

English is the main language in many places, an important language in others, and spoken as a second language in most of the rest of the world. However, there are some significant differences in pronunciation, spelling and word usage around the world.

Auxiliary languages

Auxiliary languages are artificial or constructed languages created with the intent of facilitating communication between peoples who would otherwise have difficulty communicating. They are separate from lingua francas, which are natural or organic languages that become dominant for one reason or another as means of communication between speakers of other languages.

Classical Meitei language

Classical Meitei (ꯊꯥꯛ ꯑꯋꯥꯡꯄ ꯃꯩꯇꯩꯂꯣꯟ) or Classical Manipuri (ꯊꯥꯛ ꯑꯋꯥꯡꯄ ꯃꯅꯤꯄꯨꯔꯤ ꯂꯣꯜ) is the standardized literary form of the Meitei language (officially known as Manipuri language in India), in which the holy Puyas, the religious and philosophical texts of Sanamahism, the traditional Meitei religion, were written. Similar to Latin, it serves as the liturgucal language of Sanamahism and is not spoken as a native language by any significant sector of the population.

Gestures

A gesture is a form of nonverbal communication.

Latin for travellers

Latin (lingua latīna), the language of ancient Rome, has greatly influenced many languages. The Romance languages (chiefly French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Catalan and Romanian) are direct descendants of Latin, and Latin has had some influence on all the other modern European languages.

Learning languages abroad

Many people find that they learn a language much faster if they immerse themselves by traveling to a place where the language is spoken. And no wonder!

Pidgin

Pidgin languages are created as a group of people merge words and parts of two or more languages into a unique combination. Pidgin languages may evolve as immigrants or displaced people use some of their old language, peppered with new words from their new country.
