Elassona is a small town in Larissa in northern Thessaly, at the foothills of the southern slopes of Mount Olympus. It acts as a quiet regional centre for surrounding farming and pastoral communities, and is best known as a gateway to the monasteries and hiking routes of the Olympus range.
Olympos National Park, in the Macedonian-Thessalian border in northern Greece, is home to Mount Olympus, the country's highest mountain (2,918 m). The mountain with surroundings are listed as a mixed UNESCO World Heritage Site.
