Uri (Urdu: اُڑی U‑ree, Kashmiri: ٲوٕری Aaw‑ree) is a town in the Baramula District of Jammu and Kashmir in India. The river Jhelum flows through Uri. The town is just 3km from the LOC (Line of Control), the sensitive, disputed border between India and Pakistan and militant/terrorist activity as well as security force activity is high due to this.
Uri sits close to the Line of Control in the Baramulla district, so reaching it involves travelling through a scenic but sensitive part of the Kashmir Valley.
Read in the guideUri is a small, linear town stretched along the Jhelum River and the Srinagar–Baramulla–Uri highway, so getting around is straightforward.
