Cauayan is a municipality in Negros Oriental with a population of a little over 100,000. There is a lot of coast with good fishing and some fine beaches, but inland parts of the municipality are mountainous. The area's main attraction is Danjugan Island; the island itself is a wildlife sanctuary and the surrounding waters are a marine sanctuary with excellent diving.
The main transport hubs for Negros are Bacolod, about 120 km north of Cauayan on the same coast, and Dumaguete, further away on the island's east coast.
