Millburn is a prime example of a peri-urban suburb area. You can see the different types of houses there, ranging from Georgian to COVID-era. It’s where much of the super-rich bought their houses, and where many Chinese and Indian immigrants who work in gold-collar jobs helped gentrify certain neighborhoods in cul-de-sacs in Short Hills and South Mountain.
Taylor Park is one of the commons of the Millburn locals. Relax by the lake, play some basketball, and just enjoy the Jersey charm in general. On the other side of Taylor Park, overgrown leaves lead to walking trails along the Rahway River.

The most famous restaurant in Millburn, Millburn Delicatessen (and its take-out counterpart, Millburn Deli Too) sell famous Sloppy Joe, Panini, and other notable sandwiches. Churning out tasty chaos since 1946, it has undergone a fresh rebrand in 2026 but still maintains that classic Boomer feel.
Millburn Diner
One of the longest working hours in any food joint in Millburn belongs to the very own original Millburn Restaurant, which many call the Millburn Diner. It is undergoing renovation. Homestyle American plates whipped in a warm, relaxed environment with comfy booths and a small patio? You can’t get much more American than that, even though the founders were Italian immigrants in the early 20th century. Let that sink in.

Liv Breads Artisan Bakery and Coffee Bar uses only a few simple ingredients (flour, water, salt, and sourdough starter,) making them healthier than most bakeries. They are also famous for their pickles and tuna sandwich.
Millburn is a pretty sober town. However, when you’re at the center of life in the Morris-Essex-Union area, desperate times call for desperate measures. Millburn Standard is the main nightclub and sports bar in Millburn, brewing drinks since 2020. Though a bit loud, their beer is excellent and their tacos have also been highlighted for those who don’t drink much.

Straddling the border between Millburn and Union, the Village Mall gives mainstays of the middle and working class, like Walgreens, Staples and Subway. It’s more of an outlet than a traditional mall, with its open-air environment.

Millburn Gateway Center is where most of the locals get food. Trader Joe’s and CVS are all located here, in case you want to get your trail mix or something during your hike at South Mountain.
