MCP
Non-profit organization that runs reef monitoring, marine protected area support and community projects along the coast of southern Negros Oriental. It takes international volunteers for stays of 6-24 weeks (4 weeks for experienced divers), starting every other Monday. Volunteers are trained in reef survey methods, then dive about six days a week, mostly from boats, recording fish, coral and other reef data. Non-divers can join and learn to dive on site. The weekly fee covers shared accommodation, all meals, scuba gear, airport pick-up in Dumaguete and dive training including PADI courses (course materials and certification fees extra). Travel insurance is required. Stays must be booked in advance; there are no fun dives or courses for walk-in visitors.
Comfortable rooms, ocean views, garden views, fully equipped resort, equipment rentals, dive shop, large dive boat, daily trips to and from Apo Island. Resort-amenities include fully equipped dive shop, compressor room, fully equipped dive boat, outside rinse-off areas, showers, and drying closets for the equipment. Staff handle nearly all the details.
Pool and restaurant. Dorm beds 450, rooms 2200, bungalow 3500.
The farmer’s market is equally welcoming to townspeople, shoppers, tourists, and visitors. Specialties include: Handcrafted goods, woven bags and purses, woven floor/beach mats, tools, fruits & vegetables, fish (fresh & dried), Filipino "Good Will" clothing, bamboo furniture, housewares, prepared food, and restaurants with seafood, lechon baboy, cold beer and soft drinks. As you walk past the stalls and towards the ocean, you will enter an area with a livestock market/auction as well as sit-down restaurants, as well as the port where the boats to Apo island depart.
There is a coastal highway from Dumaguete with buses and jeepneys running along it.
