The museum houses more than 17,000 cultural relics, including artifacts from the Neolithic Dacianshan site and exhibits tracing Tangshan’s evolution from early settlements to a modern industrial hub. Among its most remarkable collections are the Naoma Elephant ivory fossils, unearthed in 1958 from the Zhua Village site in Qian’an and dating back about 42,000 years. These large and well-preserved fossils provide valuable scientific and historical insight into the prehistoric environment of the region. One of the museum’s most treasured items is a perforated red copper ornament excavated from the Dacianshan ruins, considered one of the earliest known metal artifacts in China. The museum also showcases Tangshan’s distinctive cultural heritage, featuring local forms of folk art such as shadow puppetry, Pingju opera, and Leting drum storytelling, known collectively as the “Three Blossoms of Eastern Hebei.”
