Stockholm Archipelago Trail/Ålö
- Main article Stockholm Archipelago Trail
The 12.4 km Ålö stage is rated challenging and is best hiked counterclockwise from Ålö ferry stop, where the summer restaurant Båtshaket is the only food on the island. Alternatively, walk or cycle the 4.6 km gravel connector from SAT Utö — though note it passes through an active military firing range and must not be left. The trail climbs steeply to a clifftop plateau, follows the western coast to a sweeping viewpoint, then winds past an old hilltop fortification before descending to Ålö Storsand, a stunning sandy beach with barbecue areas and a water pump. The return leg passes Ålö Gård, a farm recorded since the 1500s, and a wetland rich in birdlife. The island is almost entirely a nature reserve with no accommodation — wild camping is the only overnight option.
