Bavarian Swabia is in the western part of Bavaria and its borders coincide with the administrative region (Regierungsbezirk), of which there are seven.
By train
The fast east–west spine is Munich–Augsburg–Ulm–Stuttgart. Augsburg and Ulm have frequent ICE, IC and regional trains, plus through services toward Nuremberg, Vienna and, less often, Paris.
By bus
Long-distance coaches (FlixBus and similar) serve Augsburg, Ulm/Neu-Ulm, Memmingen and sometimes Kempten or Füssen.
By car
The A8 (Stuttgart–Munich) serves Augsburg and the Günzburg / Legoland exit. The A7 runs north–south via Ulm toward Würzburg or Füssen.
By car
The A8, A7 and A96 are the through routes, everything else is federal or valley roads.
By train
Regional trains are the default between Augsburg, Ulm/Neu-Ulm, Donauwörth, Günzburg, Memmingen, Kaufbeuren, Kempten, Füssen, Oberstdorf and Lindau.
By bus
City buses in Augsburg and Kempten are usable. Between towns, coaches fill gaps the train does not cover, especially Allgäu valleys and lakes.
By bicycle
The Donauradweg, the Iller path and the signed Allgäu valley routes are the reason some people come. Surfaces are mixed; e-bike hire is widespread in Füssen, Oberstdorf and along the Danube.
