Pacific Coast Highway
The Pacific Coast Highway is one of America's most famous highways (probably second to Route 66). Stretching along the coast of California, the drive from San Diego to the Redwood National Park in Northern California makes for a great trip.
UnderstandThe Pacific Coast Highway, officially California State Route 1 (CA-1) is one of California's slower state routes, closely following the coastline, which in many places is dominated by cliffs and mountains.
Prepare50 more per gallon than the current prices elsewhere in the state.
GoWhile California Highway 1 doesn't start until Dana Point in Orange County, it's worth your time to start at the southern end of the California coast in San Diego.
Stay safeThis road is quite isolated.
