Osiyan or Osian, popularly known as the "Gateway to The Thar Desert", is a small town in Rajasthan, India known for its ancient temple ruins and as a base for camel safaris into the dessert. The ancient town was a great trading center between 8th and 12th centuries. Today it is a desert oasis with 16 Hindu and Jain temples that are beautifully sculpted and designed, most of which have stood the ravages of time.
Osiyan is about 65 km north of Jodhpur off of the main highway leading to Bikaner. It is easily accessible from Jaisalmer and Khimsar. Osian (Osiyan) is on the route of Jodhpur-Jaisalmer (Train, Road) via Phalodi.
