Jieyang (揭阳; Gêg⁴ion⁵ in Teochew, Jiēyáng in Mandarin) is a city in Guangdong Province in China.There are no tall buildings here. What you can do is to sleep until you wake up naturally and then visit the temples all over the city, the arcades with southern characteristics, the alleys that cross the old city, and taste the local specialties. It is a place worth visiting for leisure.

A Chinese-style entrance gate to the city, built during the Ming Dynasty.

Shuangfeng Temple was first built in the 10th year of Shaoxing in the Song Dynasty (1140). Its original site was at Dushuang Mountain in Panxi (now Shuangshan Village in Guiling Town). It was founded by Zen Master Fashan. In the early Ming Dynasty, Zen Master Shishan moved it to the current site of Mashan Lane in the county seat. It was a large monastery in eastern Guangdong. At that time, the temple was magnificent, the Buddha was solemn, and the forest was lush with bamboos.

Huangqi Mountain is close to the railway station. It is a good choice for mountain climbing in Jieyang. This mountain is also one of the eight ancient scenic spots in Jieyang, and there are many cultural relics. There are steps on the mountain, and it is a good place to overlook the scenery of Jieyang.

The river water rushes down here, forming a natural waterfall with a width of 80 meters and a drop of nearly 100 meters. It enjoys the reputation of "the first waterfall in Lingnan". It has rich historical and cultural connotations. The "Wang Mang Cave" in the waterfall group is said to be the place where Wang Mang lived in seclusion during the Western Han Dynasty. The cave is narrow and tortuous, full of mystery. In addition, there are historical and cultural relics such as the Canfeng Temple, Butterfly Spring, and the Big Buddha around the waterfall group. Each of them carries rich historical stories and cultural legends, allowing tourists to appreciate the natural beauty while gaining a deep understanding of the local history and culture.
丁氏光禄公祠
This traditional Chaoshan residence was built in 1878 for Ding Richang, a prominent official and reformer of the late Qing Dynasty. The complex features traditional architecture and wood carvings, with a distinctive layout in the shape of the Chinese character “興”.
揭阳楼 Jiēyáng Lóu
Built in a traditional Han-style architectural form, this 38-metre-high tower is one of Jieyang's landmarks. It stands beside the Rongjiang River and is surrounded by Jieyang Tower Square.

also known as "Chaoyin opera" and "Baizi opera", was formed before the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty and was named after the founding of New China. Early Chaozhou opera had a close relationship with southern opera. The roles have undergone development and changes over the generations. Now they are divided into 10 kinds of ugly, 7 kinds of female, 5 kinds of male, and 3 kinds of clown. The performances of female and ugly are more distinctive. Jieyang has always been known as the "hometown of drama" and "hometown of small drama".

have been introduced to eastern Guangdong for about 700 years and are a unique art form in Chaoshan. Before the late Qing Dynasty, paper shadow play was called "bamboo window paper shadow play". Various figures were carved from cowhide and decorated with colors. During the performance, an oil lamp was placed inside the stage and a bamboo frame was installed on the stage, which was covered with transparent white paper as a projection place, hence the name "bamboo window paper shadow play".
英歌舞
is a traditional folk dance in Jieyang City with a history of more than 300 years. It is considered a symbol of promoting good and suppressing evil, auspiciousness and peace. It is deeply loved and respected by the people. It has been passed down from generation to generation among the people and has a broad mass and social foundation. Yingge dance is always performed during the Spring Festival, Lantern Festival and major celebrations.

According to legend, it originated from the fact that the people of Chu State were reluctant to see the virtuous minister Qu Yuan commit suicide by jumping into the river, so many people rowed boats to chase him and save him. Later, it evolved into dragon boat racing on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month every year to express commemoration, and to drive away the fish in the river to prevent them from eating Qu Yuan's body.
