Gobi (Говь), sometimes Govi, is a region in Mongolia that covers the Gobi Desert in Mongolia. The desert itself extends across the border into the western and northern parts of Inner Mongolia in China.
It is possible to fly to Altai, Bayanhongor, and Dalanzadgad on one of the domestic airlines from Ulaanbaatar. Sainshand lies on the Trans-Mongolian Railway and can be reached by train.

Altai (Altay) is the capital city of Govĭ-Altai province. Straddling the western edge of the Gobi Desert where the Altai Mountains rise out of the sands, the region seems to symbolize emptiness.
Bayanhongor is the capital of Bayanhongor province. Outside of the city are many hot springs, rivers, lakes, oases, and the Great Gobi A National Park.
Dalanzadgad is the capital of Ömnögovi province, 575 km south from Ulaanbaatar. This town of 25,000 people (2017) is the base for explorations into the Gobi Gurvan Saikhan National Park.
Mandalgovĭ is the capital of Dundgovĭ province.
Sainshand is the capital of Dornogovi province. It is 463 km from Ulaanbaatar city.
Zamiin-Üüd is a small town in the Dornogovi province of Mongolia. It's also often spelt as Zamyn-Üüd.
Gobi Gurvan Saikhan National Park is in the central part of Gobi region, in southern Mongolia. The place has many sand dunes but with sparse vegetations which is much different than other deserts of the world.
