Belgaum or Belgaon, officially Belagavi (Kannada: ಬೆಳಗಾವಿ Beḷagāvi, Marathi: बेळगाव Beḷgāv), is a city in Northwestern Karnataka, neighbouring to the state of Goa and Maharashtra, deeply embroiled in claims over this district. The winter capital of Karnataka, Belgaum is a city with a special history; often nicknamed "Kundanagari" which takes the name of a popular sweet made in Belgaum. There is a large minority with links to Goa and Maharashtra.

Golden Legislative House
Largely identical in design to Bangalore's Vidhana Soudha, the winter session of the Karnataka Legislature is held here.

Belgaum is connected by road via the National Highway 4, connecting Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu; and NH-4A, connecting Karnataka and Goa.

This is cheap way of transport between attractions. Though not metered always it would be wise to ask the approximate amount from a local.
By taxi
Normally, taxis are not needed unless you plan to go way out of the city. If you want to move around in city, Autos and buses are good enough.
By car
There are many rental companies offering cars with drivers or self-drive, including Hertz on College Road.
