An eclectic outdoor theater in Topanga Canyon, featuring folk plays, Shakespeare, educational workshops, and concerts. Founded by actor Will Geer, who was blacklisted in the 1950s for refusing to testify before the House Committee on Un-American Activities and moved his family to a small plot in the canyon where his friend Woody Guthrie also had a small shack. They unintentionally founded what became an artists' colony that eventually became the Theatricum Botanicum.
The Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum is an open-air theater in Topanga Canyon, Los Angeles County, California. It was founded in 1973 by American actor Will Geer, and is still owned and operated by his family. It is named after the English botanist John Parkinson's 1640 herbal, Theatrum Botanicum.
