Built in 1867, its architecture is vernacular, with a "smattering" of Greek Revival/Classical Revival elements.
This private residence was built in 1917 by former Michigan governor Albert Sleeper. He lived in Bad Axe before his term as governor and after it, until his death in 1934. His wife Mary lived in the home until 1954. It functioned as a funeral home until 2006. The house is a 2½-story Greek revival structure.
