This beautiful open-air theater, nestled under the eucalyptus trees in the Siesta Valley just east of Berkeley, features traditional and experimental performances of Shakespeare's plays as well as contemporary works. Picnic dinners available for purchase, or you can bring a picnic of your own. The grounds are open two hours before showtime, which is a great time to have a dinner and some discussion. Possibly one of the best evening activities in the Bay Area.

It takes three or four hours to hike the 10 km over the Berkeley hills from Orinda, and the route takes you through lovely natural scenery on reasonably quiet trails. Start from the De La Vega trailhead just south of Camino Pablo, near the BART station. The De La Vega Trail ends at Grizzly Peak Boulevard; cross it to continue on the Side Hill Trail, then the East West Trail, and then the Stonewall Panoramic Trail, which will deposit you at the edge of UC Berkeley's campus. Use a good mapping app (for instance, one based on OpenStreetMap) to navigate, and make sure you buy and print an EBMUD permit as it's required for the De La Vega Trail. You can get back to Orinda by BART.
The historic Orinda Theater offers movies shown in a fabulous full size Art Deco main theater. One of the better movie house experiences in the Bay Area.
