Merrillville is a city of 36,000 people (2020) in Lake County, Indiana. Merrillville is a hub for retail trade in Northwest Indiana. The US 30 corridor between Taft Street and Colorado Street has a large concentration of big-box retailers, hotels, restaurants, and automobile dealerships.

The Southlake mall hosts Macy's and JCPenney department stores, and 160 more mall shops and restaurants. The Merrillville shopping mall and AMC Showplace Hobart 12 movie theater are located at Mississippi and Hwy 30, east of I-65.
The town is centered on the intersection of U.S. Route 30 (the Lincoln Highway) and Interstate 65.
