Mars Hill is traversed by a section of the International Appalachian Trail, a 525 mi footpath that extends from Maine’s Baxter State Park, through New Brunswick and Quebec, to Belle Isle at the northern tip of Newfoundland at the natural end of the Appalachian Mountains.
The International Appalachian Trail was originally a hiking trail which ran from Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument, in Maine, through New Brunswick, to the Gaspé Peninsula of Quebec, after which it followed a ferry route to Newfoundland, and then continued to the northern-easternmost point of the Appalachian Mountains at Belle Isle, Newfoundland and Labrador. As of July 2025, there are widely geographically dispersed IAT-branded walking trails in Greenland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Ireland, Isle of Man, Wales, England, Spain, Portugal, and Morocco.
Big Rock is located on the western face of Mars Hill Mountain. It has 2 chairlifts, 26 trails, 80% snowmaking, night skiing, and almost 1000 ft of continuous vertical drop. Also offers snowshoeing, snow tubing; rentals and classes available.
