In the 1640s King Charles I was imprisoned in this castle whose construction began in the 12th century. Visitors planning to visit both Osborne House and Carisbrooke Castle should consider becoming members of English Heritage; it can work out cheaper than buying individual tickets for family groups and allows free access to all other English Heritage properties for the rest of the year.
Carisbrooke Castle is a historic motte-and-bailey castle located above, and to the south of, Carisbrooke village centre, on the Isle of Wight, England. Charles I was imprisoned at the castle in the months prior to his trial.
