One of the great icons of the old smog-filled London of the mid-20th century and regarded as a fine example of industrial design of the Art Deco era. This coal-fired power station generated its last electricity in 1983 and sat empty for many years before being redeveloped with flats, shops, and offices in the 2010s. In many ways best viewed from a distance on the north side of the Thames at Chelsea.
Battersea Power Station is a preserved coal-fired power station located on the south bank of the River Thames in Nine Elms in the London Borough of Wandsworth. It was built by the London Power Company (LPC) to the design of Leonard Pearce, Engineer in Chief to the LPC, and CS Allott & Son Engineers. The architects were J. Theo Halliday and Giles Gilbert Scott. The station is one of the world's largest brick buildings and notable for its original, Art Deco interior fittings and decor.
