Ergani (pronounced ar-GHA-ni) is a town in Southeastern Anatolia, with a population of 137,000 in 2023. It’s part of Diyarbakır province and is post-industrial, with open-cast mines of iron and copper that are now exhausted, so the town has slumped. The main reason to visit is the prehistoric settlement of Çayönü.

Ergani is on Highway 885, 56 km northwest of Diyarbakır (the nearest airport) and 100 km southeast of Elazığ. A minor road winds over the mountains from Siverek, southwest on Highway E99 to Urfa.
