The Casa Canal of Mollerussa was conceived in 1867 and opened in 1868 as agricultural warehouses managed by the Sociedad Anónima Canal de Urgel. Originally based in Tàrrega, the company soon recognised the need for central facilities to store produce, including the "novè", a tithe paid by farmers benefiting from irrigation. By 1876, its offices moved permanently to Mollerussa, where additional infrastructure such as threshing areas, barns, and vats for oil and wine were developed. A distillery, later converted into a Civil Guard barracks, was also built. Between 1910 and 1935, the Casa Canal enjoyed its peak, with architectural embellishments, the installation of modern water systems, and the creation of notable gardens. In 1911, a director’s residence, later known as Cal Vilaró, was added. Following the end of the original concession in 1964, a legal dispute arose over ownership, resolved in 1967 when the Community of Irrigators purchased the property.
