The old Castell-Palau de l'Abat was used as the residence of the lords of Sant Pere de Rodes, and as a place where justice was administered. It was one of the most emblematic and important architectural elements of the Walled Town. At the beginning of the 17th century, its dimensions were reduced by the construction of the church of Sant Vicenç. The location of the church caused the division of what until then was known as the great "Castell-Palau de l'Abat". The remains still present today are the battlements, the barrel vaults of the prison and the stable, and the well dug into the rock of the central courtyard. We can even still find the coat of arms of Sant Pere de Rodes stamped at the top of the entrance door, with the date 1677.
