An enormous lava field spanning 12,000 km2. The highlights are the "White Mountains" of Jabal Abyad (2,093m) and Jabal Bayda, both comendite (white) volcanoes that have a dramatic contrast against the dark black lava fields. The area is best appreciated from the air, but there are hiking trails up to the edge of the volcano's crater.
