The lake has an area of 1,936 hectares and is a reference site for the protection of migratory birds: ducks, geese, grebes, pelicans, cormorants, herons, egrets, storks, seagulls, terns, marsh terns, and various species of waders.
Bistreț is a commune in Dolj County, Oltenia, Romania with a population of 4,211 as of the 2021 census. It is composed of four villages: Bistreț, Bistrețu Nou, Brândușa, and Plosca.
