A reservoir on the middle course of the Bistrița River, 4 km upstream from the town of Bicaz in Neamț County. The lake is bypassed on its northeastern shore by the national road DN15, which connects Piatra Neamț to Toplița. On the left bank, near the dam, there is a tourist port. In addition to the existing boats, there are dinghies, pedal boats, wooden houses and a floating hotel. Additional accommodation facilities exist on both banks, in the form of agro-tourism guesthouses.
The Lake Izvorul Muntelui, also known as Lake Bicaz, is the largest artificial lake on the interior waters of Romania; it was created after the completion of a dam built on the river Bistrița. The dam is located a few kilometers north of the town of Bicaz.
