Dutch Photo Museum
The Nederlands Fotomuseum focuses on photography in the broadest sense of the word. By doing so, the museum wants to show the diversity of forms of photography. Not only as an artistic form of expression, but also and especially as a medium of social expression and commentary.
A children's museum for modern art. The museum develops and displays interactive expositions and art installations and workshops.
Named after the reinforced concrete company that was involved with construction, the all-concrete houses built in 1921 and 1924 are municipal monuments.
Vreewijk garden village
One of Rotterdam's protected town-appearances, the only other ones existing on the north bank. The garden village was designed out of social and idealistic reasons, providing a lot of greenery to inhabitants, as well as (for the time) very modern houses.
Hulstkamp Gebouw
A historic landmark prominently located on the banks of the Nieuwe Maas. The building dates from the late 19th century and was constructed as a factory for the production of margarine and cheese. It later became associated with the Hulstkamp distillery, from which it takes its present name. The building is notable for its elaborate Dutch Neo-Renaissance architecture and imposing riverside façade. It survived much of the destruction Rotterdam suffered during the Second World War and is now protected as a national monument. Its location on Noordereiland provides good views across the river towards the city centre, the Erasmus Bridge and Kop van Zuid. The former industrial building has since been repurposed and today combines office space with a venue for conferences, dinners, weddings and other events. The building can easily be combined with a walk around Noordereiland and the nearby riverfront. It is primarily used for offices and private events, so access to the interior may be limited when no public event is taking place.
Rotterdam Open
Men's indoor tennis tournament taking place in early February. The Rotterdam Open is one of the largest (and typically the opening tournament) in the ATP Tour 500.
On the second weekend of July. It began in The Hague, but since 2005 the festival has taken place in Ahoy.
The Premier League Darts typically sees at least one round played in Ahoy, usually around the end of March.
Wooning Zesdaagse
Since 1936, this six-day track cycling race has been held in Rotterdam almost 40 times. The event is typically held in December or January, and has, unsurprisingly, a slight track record for having at least one Dutchman finish on the podium.
Usually in late January, Vrienden van Amstel is a Dutch series of concerts, sponsored by beer-brand Amstel. It is one of the largest indoor events of the Netherlands with over 100.000 attendees each year. The artists performing are some of the largest artists that the Netherlands has to offer, and though entirely Dutch-spoken, understanding the language isn't a requirement to have some fun. You'll want to bring some friends though - the event is difficult to enjoy if you're just partying on your own.
Night of Orange
Also a Dutch-only concert, taking place the day prior to King's Day (April 26th), previously prior to Queen's Day (April 29th). The event is more about partying than anything else, and the line-up of artists only confirms this. The event is as Dutch as it gets, both linguistically and musically, but like Amstel LIVE!, you can always bring some friends and just enjoy yourself.
Event venue that hosts business and nightlife events, as well as concerts across several halls, all located within an old repurposed warehouse.
De Kuip
51,000-seat football stadium, hosting the biggest club of the city, Feyenoord. The stadium also doubles as a venue for concerts.
Offers food/bites and beers on a unique venue. The building itself is an old warehouse which did not lose much of its original character. Get a food platter and pass along all the shops for breakfast, brunch or snacks.
A ship built in 1959, now permanently moored and converted to a hotel/restaurants venue. There are two fine restaurants and a bar. When the weather is nice there is a great terrace with a view. Before the F&B you can book a tour. Or even better, spend the night at this fabulous cruise ship. Guided tours around the ship are also available.
Brewery with over 20 craft beers op draft.
Establishment with ten smaller restaurants with worldly cuisines and three bars within it.
The former headquarters of the Holland Amerika Lijn was done up in 1993 and is now a hip and lively mid-range hotel.
An upscale hotel concept of NH Hoteles, with features, rooms and common spaces inspired by art, music, fashion and such. nhow Rotterdam, housed in the new striking waterfront highrise on Wilhelminakade (across the Erasmus Bridge), tops it up with great views from the pricier rooms.
Bed, Bites & Business has a spectacular view of Wilhelminaplein, the head from south to the Euromast, inside the building "San Francisco", which in 1930 was the former headquarters of the largest transhipment warehouse in the world.
It is a more exotic and colourful than the former one. This market (~300 stalls) is geared very much towards Rotterdam inhabitants of Antillian, South American or African descent (a lot of whom happen to live nearby).
