Panoramic view over the Kaudom Omuramba, site #2 has a concrete shaded viewing platform and is particularly spectacular. 6 large camping spots for up to 30 people each. The campsite has been rebuilt from scratch in 2017, so for now everything works and is in good shape. Ablution facilities have water, and if you bring firewood then you can heat the geyser yourself. Animals roam the place at night. Pack away all food.
Beautiful lodge nested in the hills atop Kaudom Omuramba.
After the old governmental camp rotted away, a new establishment has been built with 9 tented self-catering units and 4 camping spots. The camp is run by a private company which holds the concession from the community conservancy. The lodge building is very stylish and equipped with tasteful furniture from the finest materials. Classical music plays in the back. They provide food, and there is a large pool. No cell service, and no WiFi, therefore also no card payments. The camp site has received much less attention, even though it is the most expensive in all of Namibia. There are four spots on sand with water, electricity, hot water donkey (a geyser you can heat with firewood) and some shade. Not much planning went into the construction of the ablution units. The sink has no storage anywhere nearby, the steel table is skewed, the only power socket is located at a somewhat inaccessible position. The way to the light switch leads past various stumbling blocks and pole stumps. The new shade roofs have holes, and there are sharp edges and protruding nails and bolts everywhere. If it rains, admittedly not very common in Khaudum, this is no shelter to speak of.
You are required to travel in a group of at least two 4x4s, so that you are not completely on your own in case of a breakdown.
