Remote village set in fantastic mountain scenery, where landscape starts to transform into desert. The Hoarusib is particularly well-known for its desert elephants which are commonly found in the riverbed behind the village and make regular visits to Purros Bush Lodge and Campsite! Also home to desert lions.

Hot water, natural springs for swimming (if you can get past the local kids!).
Camping spots and chalets on the Ongongo Falls, a series of rapids that have a bit of water throughout the year. One of the rock pools is permanently suitable for swimming. The hot springs from which the water originates gave the settlement its name, Warmquelle=warm spring. They can be explored on foot, on your own or via a guided tour. Camping spots have artificial shade, water, and solar lights. No other amenities.
Well-kept campsite, very friendly staff, hot water, beer and cool drinks for sale.
Due to the scarcity of other options, most travellers will arrive by car. The main town Opuwo is about 720 km north-northwest from Windhoek.
Read in the guideThe C35 from Kamanjab to Ruacana and the C41 to Opuwo are tarred roads. All other C-roads are rough, heavily corrugated gravel roads that are just about passable with an ordinary sedan.
