Muyil was one of the earliest and longest inhabited ancient Maya sites on the eastern coast of the Yucatan Peninsula. It is located approximately 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) south of the coastal site of Tulum, in the Municipality of Felipe Carrillo Puerto in the state of Quintana Roo, Mexico. Artifacts found here date back from as early as 350 BC. to as late as 1200-1500 AD. The ruins of Muyil are an example of Peten architecture, like those found in southern Mayan sites with their steep walled pyramids such as Tikal in Guatemala. It is situated on the Sian Ka'an lagoon, a name meaning "Where the Sky is Born". Muyil was located along a trade route on the Caribbean once accessible via a series of canals. Among the most commonly traded goods were Jade, obsidian, chocolate, honey, feathers, chewing gum, and salt. It is believed that throughout much of its history, Muyil had strong ties to the center of Coba located some 44 kilometres (27 mi) the north / northwest. The 2010 federal census reported a population of 191 inhabitants in the locality.

– 20 km. A wonderful nature preserve and . The park features acres upon acres of pristine mangrove swamp and wetlands. Find a sea kayak and explore the lagoon side. There are a few fishermen that dock here and are willing to take you on a tour that is much cheaper than the organized tours offered in the area. The fishermen will take you on a one or two hour boat tour of the reserve anytime of the day. Expect to pay M$1000. Still there are also organized boat tours available.
Big lagoon with swimming area and hammocks, includes a deep area in the center with different colored water.
Peaceful, tranquil spot for healing waters and holistic massage treatments.
In Cenote Cristal you have a nice platform to jump into the water. On the opposite side of the road is Cenote Escondido. Also nice for swimming and it has a rope to jump into the water. Maybe not so great for diving and snorkeling but a great spot to cool off and have some fun close to Tulum.
Very unique tropical/beach themed gym with custom equipment made out of wood and stones. Definitely has a very Instagram-focused clientele, but is a very fun place to workout. Locations both right on the beach and within the town.
Uniquely designed art museum and restaurant that is best experienced as an architectural jewel. It takes influences from the nearby seascapes and jungle landscapes to create meandering paths through the building with arches, doorways, and architectural details that resemble jungle growth. Casual visitors can just walk around outside and get a feel for it without spending the money on admission. A visit may only take a few minutes for the casual visitor though the curious architect might want to come when the doors first open to avoid crowds and spend more time in each space.
