Kuala Kedah, on the coast about 12 km from Alor Setar, is a busy fishing village with great seafood. Besides Kuala Perlis, it is a major port to the island of Langkawi.

This fort is also known as the main gate of Kuala Kedah. It was built on 1771 by Sultan Abdullah and was completed in 1780. In 1821 it was conquered by the Siamese till 1842. Kota Kuala Bahang or Kota Kuala Kedah was no longer a battlefield after this time.
Ferries to Langkawi leave every 1.5-2 hours, the last service is at 7:00PM, a one-way ticket costs RM45 for (adult) foreigners (2025).
