The Šlokenbeka Manor was first mentioned in 1484, when its construction was assumed to have begun. The purpose of the manor was to protect the nearby Tukums from invaders. During the centuries, it was owned by several dynasties, like the Butlars and Scenkings, the Putkammers and Grothauses, as well as the Medems and Rekes. In 1997, the Šlokenbeka Manor was handed over to the Ministry for Transportation, which has now arranged the Museum of Latvian Roads here.
Šlokenbeka Castle is a fortified manor in the Smārde Parish of Tukums Municipality, in the Courland region of Latvia. It is the only existing example of a fortified manor centre in Latvia. It started its existence as a castle of the Livonian Order before 1544. In 1845 Šlokenbeka manor house was built inside the defensive walls of the castle.
