Takayama-sha Sericulture School is a historic silk-farming training centre, founded in 1884 by Takayama Chōgorō. it taught the seion-iku method of silkworm rearing, which used controlled temperature and ventilation to improve silk production. Students came from across Japan and overseas, helping spread the technique. The surviving buildings include the former school and its distinctive two-storey farmhouse, designed to provide suitable conditions for raising silkworms. The site forms part of the UNESCO World Heritage listing Tomioka Silk Mill and Related Sites, recognising the importance of Japan's modern silk industry.
