Tetebatu is The oldest tourist village in It is a quaint and scenic rural area some 700-800 m above sea level, and gives visitors the chance to experience real, traditional village life in Lombok. This is far removed from drunken beer boy scene in Senggigi.

The rice fields around Tetebatu are the area's principal attraction. Paths wind between irrigated paddies, villages, plantations and small streams, with views towards the heavily forested slopes of Rinjani. The landscape changes considerably with the agricultural cycle. Freshly planted fields can be an intense green, while mature rice gives the countryside a more golden appearance. Early morning is particularly pleasant for walking, before temperatures rise and clouds frequently develop around Rinjani. Rather than visiting a single viewpoint, allow several hours to walk between villages and fields. Local guides can explain irrigation systems, crops and traditional farming practices.
Taman Wisata Tetebatu
This park is a gentle 4-km walk north of the town. Expect lots of macaques and some pleasant enough scenery and waterfalls. Again, ask at your hotel about a guide, and avoid any offers of motorised transport.
These falls are not as spectacular as those in the north of the national park around Senaru, but still very much worth the effort to see. You will need a guide to find Jukut and your hotel will certainly help with this. Expect to pay about Rp 100,000-150,000. The falls are reached via a really pleasant two hour walk from Tetebatu through charming rice paddies. Less recommended is to drive to the main car park, from where the falls are 2 km down a well trodden walking track. Local Sasak lore has it that the waters here are a cure for baldness.
About 5 km south of Tetebatu, Kotaraja is a substantial Sasak village and one of the best places in the area to investigate traditional peresean. Peresean is a ceremonial form of stick fighting in which two men fight with rattan sticks and buffalo-hide shields. It has both competitive and ritual dimensions and forms part of broader Sasak cultural traditions. Fights are not necessarily held every day. Ask locally about scheduled performances rather than assuming one will be taking place. Kotaraja is also an interesting destination simply for observing everyday village life away from the principal tourist accommodation.
3 rooms, all in a traditional Sasak family life house, Views out over rice paddies, jungle, and mountain view, and a really charming little place. The owner speaks good English and is really knowledgable about local culture and sights.
5 local style lumbung rice barn style a-framed bungalows. Very spacious and suitable for couple or even small families. Excellent views and located in a particularly quiet spot.
One of the original places to stay in Tetebatu and it is a bit uninspiring. Basic rooms arranged around a garden. Good location though to the north of the village en route to the national park.
Very friendly Sasak family with nice quite rooms with a nice view. Around Rp 100,000.
Getting to Tetebatu by public transport is a bit of a saga and can take a very long time. There are buses from the main terminal in Mataram to Paokmotong about 12 km south of Tetebatu.
