The mosque was founded by Sunan Geseng, a student of Sunan Kalijaga, in 1472. As is typical of mosques in Java, Loano Mosque uses wooden pillars as building supports. The main pillar in the main part of the mosque is more than 500 years old. While the terrace was built around 1872.
