UnderstandThe northwest area is the westernmost area and is directly adjacent to Central Java on the north coast of Java.

Get inCities served by the rail network include Bojonegoro, Ngawi, Madiun, Nganjuk and Jombang. Daily trains from Jakarta as well as Surabaya.

Get aroundCities are connected by provincial roads in good condition. There is also a toll road from Ngawi to Jombang through Madiun and Nganjuk.

SeeTeksas Wonocolo, the earliest oil and gas tourist site in Indonesia has been opened in Bojonegoro. There are some traditional oil rigs made from teak woods.

DoThe most you can hope for will be getting out to somewhere green because there are some teak forestry areas especially in Ngawi, Nganjuk, and Bojonegoro.

EatPecel is ubiquitous dish in the area. This food can be found in the cities. Try pecel sambal tumpang, pecel with tempeh sauce in Kertosono District of Nganjuk.

DrinkAs an area with a Muslim majority, it is very difficult to find alcoholic drinks. The common drinks are sweet iced tea and instant coffee. You may also try Java ginger juice, traditionally called sari temulawak.

Stay safeBe careful of non-air-conditioned intercity buses because they are high-speed and have had several accidents.
