An ancient ruined city with a special "lost place" atmosphere on Lake Vistonia, not far from Porto Lagos.
Anastasiopolis-Peritheorion is an archaeological site located in northern Greece, southeast of the village of Amaxades in the Rhodope regional unit in Western Thrace. Parts of the fortification walls of the ancient city of Anastasiopolis and Peritheorion are still visible. It is unclear whether these are two different cities or a single one that has been renamed in the meantime. The ancient city was an important port on the Aegean Sea and station on the Via Egnatia.

Meteora of the North, Astrea Rocks
Amazing rocky peaks that remind of the famous Meteora on a smaller scale, in a remote area full of abandoned settlements. Requires driving on dirt roads and hiking. Getting onto the rocks themselves is possible only to experienced rock climbers. There are also some nice caves nearby, next to Políarnon village.

Xanthi Carnival
A three-week-long event held every year since 1966. It features a vast array of concerts, dance, drama and visual arts. The parade and the traditional puppet burning takes place to end the carnival event.
The museum is housed in two three-story buildings, built next to each other and dating back to 1860. They were the private residence of two tobacco tradesmen and still have their inside walls decorated by remarkable paintings.
