Gardiki Castle is a 13th-century Byzantine fortress on Corfu’s southwest coast near Agios Matthaios. Built by the Despotate of Epirus, it formed part of a defensive triangle with Angelokastro and Kassiopi, protecting the island before Venetian rule. Its distinctive octagonal walls with eight towers still stand largely intact, making it one of Corfu’s most impressive medieval remains. The castle sits on a low hill near Lake Korission and is easily accessible by road.
