Bunkpurugu is the capital of Bunkpurugu-Nakpanduri District in the Ghanaian Northern Plains region of Ghana. It's a busy market town just west of the Togo border and just below the Gambaga Escarpment, serving Bimoba, Mamprusi, and Konkomba communities. It functions as the commercial hub for this far corner of the North East Region, with a large market, lorry station, and better guesthouses than surrounding villages.
Chop bars serving Tuo Zaafi (TZ) with ayoyo or groundnut soup, rice and stew, banku.
Tea/bread and Lipton in mornings, pito (millet beer) and zomkom (sweet millet drink) bars evenings.
Basic guesthouses — fan, mosquito net, private bath with bucket or running water when power. Better than Nakpanduri/Chereponi but still basic. Power intermittent, bring power bank and towel.
Biggest market in Bunkpurugu-Nakpanduri. Yams (huge piles in season), maize, soybeans, livestock (goats, cattle, fowls), smoked fish, used clothes, Togolese goods, household items. Cash only, cedis and some CFA.
