You can explore the massive remains of the former steel mill by following the "Hüttenweg," a self-guided trail with informative signs that winds through the industrial monuments. While the grounds are always accessible, a guided tour allows you to climb the 25-meter-high platform of Blast Furnace VI for a panoramic view of the city, visit a historic cone-shaped air-raid shelter (Spitzbunker), and see the preserved gas blowing engines. The meeting point for tours is typically at the Stummsche Reithalle.
Part of the historic ironworks estate, this restored former riding hall now serves as an intimate cultural venue. It hosts a wide variety of events throughout the year, including cabaret, jazz concerts, theater performances, and "Kleinkunst" (performing arts). Its red-brick architecture and cozy interior make it one of the most popular spots for local culture.
A small, ornate neo-Gothic chapel built by the Stumm family in the mid-19th century. It served as the private chapel for the industrial dynasty and is a fine example of the architecture favored by the wealthy elite of the coal and steel era.
Zoologischer Garten Neunkirchen
A family-friendly zoo built on a forested hill. It features a falconry with regular flight shows, snow leopards, and an elephant house. It's a great green escape from the industrial centre.
A interactive natural history museum. It uses life-sized replicas of the environments and animals, but also state-of-the-art animations with 3D glasses - to take visitors through the history of the Earth. While sizable portion is devoted to trilobites and dinosaurs, it covers times since Big Bang all the way until human evolution. Food court, not particularly special nor cheap, is available.
