The backdrop for the festival and one of the main "sights" is a roughly 100 m high mountain not made of chalk (Kalk) but of anhydrous gypsum (calcium sulfate). Inside this mountain there is a cave that is a popular wintering place for bats and can be visited seasonally.
The Kalkberg is a 91-metre-high rock in the center of Bad Segeberg, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. The name is a misnomer as it is not made of limestone, but from gypsum.
