Port Safaga is a harbour city on the Red Sea Coast in Egypt close to the resort city of Soma Bay, which is a quite expensive place with lots of resorts. So, if you want to explore the region, Port Safaga can be a cheaper place to stay.
From Luxor and Qena, there are daily buses operated by several companies (including Go Bus) to Safaga, with a travel time of about 3-5 hours. In November 2025, tickets cost around US$4.
