desert of Anholt
The eastern part of the island is called Ørkenen (The Desert); a dry sandy desert-like heathland. It is quite beautiful and unique with a sparse vegetation of lichen heath, and stunted juniper trees in between. The best way to experience the place is by foot, just follow the well-marked hiking trail. Be prepared, the desert is quite big. It takes about 4 hours to reach the lighthouse by foot, and then you have to backtrack the same distance! Do not get stuck out there without water or at night.
Conveniently placed just east of the harbour. Community house with kitchens, bathrooms, and showers. The beach here is outstanding.
You can also sail there in your own boat, and dock at the marina. This is popular in the summer, so be sure there is a free spot beforehand.
