The people of São Paulo ordered the construction of a chapel to house the first image of Our Lady of Penha, donated by Petronilha Leite in 1731. The current main church was built on the site of this chapel, where the image of Our Lady of Penha de França is enthroned, made from a single block of wood in the Baroque style. The image was sculpted in Portugal and donated to the chapel by the Portuguese Antonio José de Campos in 1755. Today, restored by IPHAN, the main church of Our Lady of Penha de França is one of the biggest tourist attractions in Corumbá de Goiás.
