The Lainzer Tiergarten is a 24.50 km2 (6,054-acre) wildlife preserve in the southwest corner of Vienna, Austria, 80% of it being covered in woodland. It dates back to 1561, when Ferdinand I created it as a fenced-in hunting ground for his family to use. Since 1919, it has been open to the public. Its name consists of its location by the Lainz district of Vienna's 13th District, and Tiergarten, which means zoo.

Inspired by the Weißenhofsiedlung in Stuttgart and initiated by architect Josef Frank, the Werkbundsiedlung public estate housing project in the Lainz Municipality of Hietzing was built from 1930 to 1932 by numerous national and international architects of the time (amongst those famous names like Adolf Loos and Gerrit Rietvelt) and has fine examples of Bauhaus style architecture. This public estate housing complex consisted of 76 buildings of which 32 still exist.
There is both an indoor and outdoor pool.
The painter Gustav Klimt used this villa as a studio from 1911 until his death in 1918. The studio has been carefully reconstructed using old photographs, and other rooms in the villa have displays about Klimt's models and clients.
