Raymond Island hosts a population of some 300 koalas, and sightings along the 2 km Koala Trail are practically guaranteed. There is also a large variety of sea birds and wallabies. There is a waterfront walk/cycle path, and paths and roads which meander through the trees. The island is right next to Paynesville, only 4 min away by ferry. The ferry runs on a schedule from 7am to midnight daily, with continuous service in peak times and services every 20 min or so the rest of the time.
Raymond Island is a town located on a small island in the Gippsland Lakes in eastern Victoria, Australia, about 300 km from Melbourne. The island is approximately 6 km long by 2 km wide, with an area of approximately 7.5 square kilometres. It is just 200 m (660 ft) off the coast, across from the town of Paynesville. The island is named after William Odell Raymond, originally a magistrate from New South Wales, who established himself as a squatter in Gippsland in the 1840s.
