Mussulo Island is just outside Luanda, separated (mostly) from the mainland by the Baie de Mussulo. While actually a peninsula, connected to the mainland by a narrow sandy spit, it is only accessible by boat. It's a popular escape from the Luandan chaos — clean paradisaical beaches with decent tourist facilities. Because it is popular with wealthy Luandans and expats, the restaurants, bars, and accommodations are expensive.
A resort with 12 accommodation units: five suites and one-, two- and three-bedroom houses. Facilities include a restaurant, bar, outdoor swimming pool and gardens. Arrange the boat crossing and pickup time when booking.
Resort Madeirense
A quiet resort offering suites and two- or three-bedroom apartments. Facilities include a restaurant, bar, games room, spacious rooms and a large outdoor swimming pool. It is not directly on the seafront.
A contemporary beachfront resort with 13 rooms. It has a restaurant serving local seafood, sushi and international dishes, as well as a swimming pool, bar, gardens and facilities for beach and water activities.
A small aparthotel-style complex about 100 m from Macoco Beach, with five air-conditioned bungalows, satellite television, refrigerators, microwaves and basic kitchenware. Facilities include a swimming pool, restaurant and bar, kayaking, karaoke and a snooker table. Guests may bring food, but outside drinks are not permitted.
Many boats from different locations in Luanda depart daily, with more traffic on weekends. More expensive options are faster, more reliable, and safer.
